Austria covers an area of approximately 83,879 square kilometers (32,386 square miles), making it one of the smaller countries in Europe. Despite its size, Austria’s terrain is remarkably diverse, dominated by the Alps in the west and south, which constitute around 62% of its total land area. The highest point is the Grossglockner, standing at 3,798 meters (12,461 feet). The eastern part of the country features a flatter landscape, including the Danube River, which flows through the northern part of Austria.
Austria experiences a temperate and alpine climate. Summers are generally warm with moderate temperatures, while winters are cold, especially in the mountainous regions where snowfall is common.
